Which traits bend, which ones hold, and what a version keeps
Customising here is subtraction and correction, not construction — you are arguing with a personality that already exists.
A custom AI girlfriend maker lives or dies on what its controls actually reach. Ours edit temperament rather than vocabulary: how warm she is, how fast she escalates, how much she teases, how often she asks a question back, which subjects she steers away from, and how much of an earlier conversation she brings up unprompted. Those are the levers that change a reply. Cosmetic switches are not.

How a remix goes when it goes well
You open a preset, talk for a few minutes, and one thing grates — she agrees too quickly, or she circles back to a topic you dropped. You open the remix panel, move that single trait, and the next reply already reflects it. No rebuild, no waiting, no starting the relationship over from an empty screen.
After two or three of those corrections the character stops feeling like someone else's writing. That is the whole method: react, correct, save, continue — and because each save branches, the version you liked last week is still one tap away when this week's experiment turns out worse.

01Which traits can a remix actually change?
Temperament and behaviour: warmth, pace, how forward she is, humour style, how often she asks questions back, which topics she avoids, and how much she references earlier conversations. These are the settings that visibly change the next reply rather than just relabelling the card.
02Can I edit a character after weeks of talking to her?
Yes. The remix panel is available at any point, not only at setup. Adjusting a trait mid-relationship changes how she responds from the next message onward, and it saves as a new version so the one you were using is still there.
03How many versions of one preset can I keep?
More than anyone uses in practice. Each save branches rather than overwriting, so a single shelf preset can carry several of your versions at once. Most people settle on two or three and switch between them depending on what they want that evening.
04Can I build a character from nothing instead of a preset?
Not from a blank form, and that is deliberate — blank forms are where people quit. What you can do is strip a preset down: replace enough traits and almost nothing of the original judgement survives, which is the same destination by a route people actually finish.
